Cockpit drill for new drivers

The cockpit drill for new drivers may seem basic, but at Accelerate Drive driving school we view these checks as really important. Before starting the engine, make sure your car is comfortable and ready to go.

Here’s what you should always check:

      • All doors are closed, and the parking brake is on.

      • Your seat is in the right spot, so you can easily reach the pedals.

      • Your headrest is properly positioned.

      • The steering wheel is adjusted for easy use.

      • Your seatbelt is fastened and feels comfortable.

      • All mirrors are adjusted correctly.

      • You have enough fuel for the trip.

      • The parking brake is on, and the gear is in neutral (or P/N for automatics).

A few things to keep in mind:

        • Always adjust your seat first before checking the mirrors.

        • Know how to adjust your seat for the best driving position.

        • Learn how to adjust your mirrors, especially the interior one at night to avoid glare from cars behind you.
